Europe in a tale Competition rules 1. Promoting bodies The Centro in Europa association- Genoa in partnership with the Berliner Märchentage Tales Festival (Berlin); the National Festival of Children’s Book (Sliven, Bulgaria); the Faculty of "Scienze della Formazione", University of Genova; the Municipality of Sestri Levante; the International Board of Books for Young People (IBBY), located in Basel, with more than sixty national sections all over the world; the Europe Direct Information Relay of Genova; the Andersen magazine - The World of Infancy; the Urban Library System of Genova; the City of Genova; the National Library Association, Liguria Section; the Library Center of the Province of Genova, invites entries for the competition Europe in a tale, an initiative in the framework of the Project LITTLE (Let' s Invent a Tale and Teach to the Little ones of Europe), supported by Directorate-General for Education and Culture of the European Commission. The aim of the project is to promote and focus on the great values of the European Union by means of children’s literature. 2. Entry deadlines Submission of entries will be accepted from September 20 2005 to January 31 2006. 3. Eligibility Participation is free of charge and no limitation of any sort is applied. 4. Participating countries Competition is simultaneously launched in three European countries, Italy, Germany and Bulgaria. 5. How to enter All entries must be inspired by the great values of the European Union: human dignity and human rights, rule of law, peace, democracy, freedom, tolerance, equality. Participants may e-mail their work to the following address, reglibsliven@iradeum.com , or post a typed or printed copy in a sealed envelope to the following address: 1 “Nikola Karev” Street, Sliven 8800, Bulgaria Tales must be no longer than 3 pages, about 6500 characters (spaces are not included). Personal identifying data (name and surname; date of birth), a complete address, telephone contacts, author email address (if any) must also be included. On the base of the supplied personal identifying data, the fables will come inserted in the following categories: Ø Children (until 14 years); Ø Boys and Girls (from the 15 to the 18 years); Ø Adults (more than 18 years). Entries must be postmarked by January 31 2006. Participants may send more than one tale, provided that they respect all competition rules. Competition requires unpublished tales written either in Italian or English language and entries must have never been previously awarded a prize. The jury will examine the tales without any references of the authors, except their age. The winning tales may be adapted on a space-available basis as decided by the members of the jury, their decision being unappealable. 6. Prizes All tales will take part in the awarding of the prizes. Each national jury (Italian, German, Bulgarian) will choose the best three tales among all received entries. An international jury, made up of representatives from each evaluating committee will chose the best European tale among those selected in the national competitions. Winners will be informed via registered mail, within 60 days by the end of the competition and the names of the three best tale writers will be published on the website: www.centroineuropa.it. The three best tales of each country will be published on a special number of In Europa magazine, or other equivalent publication, and will be presented during the final seminar of the competition which will be held at the European Parliament in Brussels during the month of May 2006. The winner author will take part in the final seminar in Brussels. The winner author of the best Bulgarian tale will also win one night stay in a hotel in Sliven (and travel expenses) and will take part in the National Festival of Books for Children in May 2006. Countries-partners in the LITTLE project will exchange participants in the competition at their expense to take part in the organized by them events – Andersen festival in Sestri Levante, Italy, Festival of Tales in Berlin, Germany. Each participant will get a certificate for participation in the Competition.
